Jim Burnett is a fourth-generation Texan and holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Texas A&M University. He began writing following a thirty-year career with the National Park Service that took him to eight parks across the country. His responsibilities at one of those assignments included conducting historical research and supervising a living historical farm that used the same nineteenth-century methods described in Saltgrass Prairie Saga. His final assignment was as Chief Ranger at Colonial National Historical Park in Virginia, which preserves and interprets key sites from both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Jim is also the author of Hey Ranger! True Tales of Humor and Misadventure from America’s National Parks (vols. 1 and 2) and more than fifty short articles. He is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors and now lives in Pinehurst, North Carolina.
